Somerset Leisure is a non- profit making leisure trust which is the largest provider of leisure activities in Somerset. The leisure trust delivers a wide range of sports, leisure, learning, health and well being services across 13 leisure centres across the county which are located on shared school sites. It also provides an outdoor activities programme based at the world-renowned Hestercombe Gardens. It promotes health and well being to the local community. As a leading employer in the area the trust works with a strong partnership of education and training providers to deliver skills training for the sports and leisure industry.
Somerset Leisure Trust is making its mark with a major new re-brand, 1610 has been selected as the new name for the Leisure Trust which manages 13 leisure centres across Somerset. 1610 was chosen as the exciting new name as it represents the number of square miles in Somerset and while the trust is keen to establish a new, modern and vibrant brand for itself, it still wishes to retain links with its community roots in Somerset.
The change in name also reflects the changing role of the trust as it is now much more than the management of leisure centres. The trust has actively pursued wider ranging community roles by increasing the choice of activities that it provides, from healthy living initiatives, adult learning programmes to workforce development and training for the sports and leisure industry....

Budding triathletes in Shepton Mallet who wish to take on the challenge of one of the UK’s fastest growing sports, the triathlon, will have the chance to learn more about the sport at Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre next month. The centre, which is managed by Somerset Leisure Trust, is hosting a special triathlon seminar on September 14th which will provide an overview of many aspects of Triathlon, including equipment, training, nutrition, and how to get involved. If the seminar proves popular, there are plans to launch a unique 8-week triathlon training course. The seminar will be led by a fully qualified Level 2 Triathlon Coach.

This is part of a free health and wellbeing fun day at Glastonbury Leisure centre in April, which is being organised by Somerset Leisure and St Dunstan’s Community School and Arts College.
The competition is aimed at finding the best images of healthy lifestyles from outdoor and sporting activities, growing and cooking healthy food, to happy and healthy moments. The competition is split in to three categories, including children under eleven years old, 11-13 year olds and 14-16 year olds.
