Three Somerset families help to publicise fantastic work done by YOG Pre-School

Three families from Somerset are joining a campaign to support and publicise a Yeovil organisation which has been helping South Somerset children with a variety of additional needs for almost 50 years.

Five year old Jack has autism and attended the Yeovil Opportunity Group pre-school at the Balidon Centre before going on to a specialist school in Yeovil. Jack’s mother, Alice Dawkins from Crewkerne, said she was initially unaware YOG existed and hadn’t realised there was an alternative to mainstream nurseries for pre-schoolers with additional needs. ...

Why water deregulation has left some customers “high and dry” when it comes to basic water maintenance & detection services

SW based water and sewerage repair service business Pipefix is experiencing a steady stream of customers who, since the introduction of deregulation on 1 April 2017, are finding the everyday maintenance services performed by the old water companies including leak detection and repair, step-testing, tank cleaning and valve testing are no longer available. This is because the new retailers set up to sell water directly to customers in a competitive environment do not have any service delivery capability.

Gary Butt, md of Pipefix, explains, “Since deregulation came in to place on 1 April, the wholesalers are no longer allowed to talk to their old customers about their water. The wholesalers now sell only to the retailers. Data protection rules and OFWAT regulations strictly forbid the wholesaler inspectors to talk to their old customers and many customers are confused about where to go for the basic water maintenance services they had always taken for granted from their previous or existing water company....

When Royal Navy Helicopter Engineer Dan Cussans is clocking up the miles as he trains for the Yeovil Marathon on 11 June he has only one clear aim: to raise as much money as possible to support the Yeovil organisation which helped his daughter Josie in her pre-school years.

Dan is based with the Commando Helicopter Force at RNAS Yeovilton in 846 Naval Air Squadron where he works on Merlin helicopters. Dan and his wife came to the Yeovil Opportunity Group Pre-School in 2013 when Josie’s health visitor recognised she had delays in reaching her development milestones and would need additional pre-school support....

Poole nursery fundraises £5K to support build of new Rwanda school as its own new buildings continue to take shape

As building work continues to expand its two nursery settings in Poole, over 4,000 miles away in Rwanda a new school is being built and partially funded by the money raised through various fundraising activities by staff, children and parents at Cuddles Day Nursery.

Owner of Cuddles Day Nursery, Linda Duly explains, “Back in 2015 I went to Rwanda with my husband and visited an orphanage run by an extraordinary woman called Faith Uwantege. I learned that Faith’s inspiration bears its roots from the streets of Kinigi where she constantly saw vulnerable children at risk with no hope for tomorrow. ...
